EVENT LOCATION: Villa Bardini, Florence
EVENT DATE: October 21, 2025, to April 12, 2026
EVENT TIME: 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM
EVENT DESCRIPTION
The boundless beauty of life in the ocean depths and the fragility of underwater ecosystems are showcased in the "Oceans" exhibition, which brings National Geographic to Florence for the first time, featuring the work of world-renowned underwater photographer David Doubilet. Over 80 images showcase marine ecosystems, currently under severe pressure from climate change and human activity.
Together with his wife Jennifer Hayes, a marine biologist and underwater photographer herself, David Doubilet has become an ambassador for the oceans and the importance of their health for our well-being. Eleven rooms display iconic images taken in seas around the world, from the Caribbean to the Philippines, from Indonesia to Australia, and even Antarctica. Among Doubilet's most poignant photographs are an aerial view of one of the most spectacular stretches of Australia's Great Barrier Reef, flown over by a small DeHavilland Beaver aircraft carrying divers; a photo of a baby green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) swimming out to sea in the crystal-clear waters of Nengo Nengo Lagoon, a small atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia; the clownish grin of a rainbow parrotfish (Scarus frenatus) off the coast of Queensland, Australia; and corals composing a masterpiece of abstract art in Tubbataha Reef National Park.
